Red Sgraffito Flower Mug

This handcrafted mug is wheel thrown in stoneware and finished using a sgraffito technique, where layers of red slip are carved through to reveal the pale clay beneath. Bold floral motifs emerge from the surface, giving the mug a strong graphic presence balanced by the softness of the handmade form.
 
The exterior carries expressive tool marks and subtle variations in line, while the interior is glazed smoothly for everyday use. Each mug is individually decorated, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike.
 
The gently rounded body and comfortable handle make this mug ideal for daily coffee or tea. Both tactile and expressive, it brings colour, pattern and craftsmanship to simple rituals.
 
Made in small batches by Susy Ward at her Krowji studio in Redruth, this mug reflects a love of traditional techniques, surface exploration and thoughtful making.
