Large Sunset Bowl with Copper Centre
This large bowl is wheel thrown in stoneware and finished with a deep, smoky glaze that softens and shifts across the surface. At the centre, warm copper tones emerge through the glaze, catching the light and revealing the spiral marks of the throwing process beneath.
The glaze pools and breaks naturally, creating subtle variations in tone from dark charcoal to earthy bronze. Each firing brings its own character, ensuring that no two bowls are ever the same. The layered surface records the movement of the wheel and the atmosphere of the kiln, giving the piece a quiet sense of depth and presence.
Designed as a statement piece, this bowl works beautifully as a centrepiece or decorative object, while remaining functional for serving if desired. Its generous scale and restrained palette allow it to sit comfortably within both contemporary and rustic interiors.
Made by Susy Ward at her Krowji studio in Redruth, this bowl reflects a love of material, process and understated form.
